Hands-on hardware

Flight hardware, up close.

The drone-landing project started with studying vehicles like this one. NASA's Ingenuity engineering model — drag to orbit it, scroll to zoom, and tap the markers.

  • Coaxial rotors

Counter-rotating carbon-fiber blades spin ~2,500 RPM to bite Mars' thin air.

  • Solar panel

A single panel above the rotors recharges the batteries between flights.

  • Avionics box

Insulated fuselage keeps flight computers alive through −90 °C nights.
